Zulus Restaurant & Bar, Chef Joel McCulla

Chefs Joel McCulla, of Zulu's Restaurant will be showcasing his skills at the Growers Markets, Thurs 30th June.

"I can't wait to get an opportunity to part the curtains and show people some of the unique things we're doing at Zulu's these days. I'm hoping to excite and maybe intimidate people, but above all stretch everyone's idea as to how exciting dining can really be." - Chef Joel McCulla.
Zulu's Restaurant & Bar is a quaint intimate restaurant built into the Best Western Zebra Motel, in Coffs Harbour. It has old world charm with it's private leather booths, open planning and gorgeous timber trimming.

Both Zulu's and the Zebra Motel are family owned local businesses, where the focus is placed on providing a unique overall experience from the moment you walk through the door.

This unique experience culminated with the introduction of our Chef, Joel McCulla, to the team in 2009.

Chef Joel began experimenting with the flavours and combination of flavours found on the African continent. He then narrowed down the most unique combinations he could find, and created dishes around them with the intention of making these combinations of flavours more readilly available and the Australian palate.

The resulting dishes, formed our African Platter menu, a menu which allows our diners to tailor their dinner to their own tastes, resulting in over 480 possible combinations to choose from.

From there, Chef Joel, chose to create an ala carte menu which features not only what he believes as the best of these combinations, but the best of what is occuring in dining trends around Australia, and indeed the world itself.

With idols like Heston Blumenthal, and Homaro Cantu, and real world training in some of the busiest and best hotels and restaurants in Brisbane, our Chef Joel has been working on and developing his uniquely twisted view on the dining experience. His food often displays an intimate understanding of his ingredients, coupled with an adventurous spirit.

The entire package is something that needs to be experienced to believe.
